Interview
On the 6th August, we had the incredible opportunity to interview Sr. Mary Constable, the last surviving sister of the six who our study focused around. Despite being almost one-hundred, Mary Constable was bright and full of life, eager to answer any question we had. Still having an impressive grasp of the Japanese language, she spoke extensively about how grateful she was towards the Japanese people who she encountered through her many years spent there.
She reflects on her experiences in Nagasaki, and felt "accepted" even during and after the turmoil of the Second World War. In the midst of occupation by America, Japan still kept their head held high and remained "favorable". We cannot thank Sr. Mary Constable enough for being one of the most valuable sources throughout this investigation and inquiry. We conclude with one final quote;
"... it was a perfect combination of everybody [Australia, Japan and America] being together. It was amazing."
